What does Detroit sound like? The Detroit Symphony Orchestra (DSO) and composer Tod Machover, director of the Opera of the Future group at the MIT Media Lab, will ask every Detroiter that question in the coming year as they work with the community to create a collaborative symphony - Symphony in D - which will premiere on November 20, 2015. The process involves layers, interactions, associations and discoveries which will produce a work representing the heart and soul of Detroit’s past, present and future. Through sound submissions, workshops and discussions throughout the city, original sonic creation, and back-and-forth musical sharing and shaping, Detroit residents and community institutions are invited to celebrate Detroit, explore its unique sounds and reflect on this exciting moment in its history.
